New slimline CO2 sensor set for European bow at ISH Frankfurt

Gas Sensing Solutions is launching a new CO2 sensor aimed at the European Building Control, HVAC, IAQ and DCV applications at the forthcoming ISH 2017 show running from March 14th-18th in Frankfurt.

A smaller version of GSS' current CozIR, CozIR LP, (which made its global debut at AHR Expo in Las Vegas in February) is the latest generation of the popular product, created in response to market demands for more compact, slimline devices.

Its physical volume is 85% less than the envelope of the current sensor and uses SmartIR LED-based technology, allowing for simplified systems and a robust design - as with all GSS CO2 sensors.

“Just like size, power matters, especially for remote “Internet of Things” infrastructure,” explains GSS Business Development Director Grant Notman.

“This was a theme that we discussed with American delegates at the AHR Expo in great detail as the market there is really starting to open up and embrace the opportunity, just as the European market has.”

Operating at a speedy 2 samples/second, the CozIR LP requires a miserly 6mJ/measurement and equally important, a peak pulse current of only 33mA – addressing the major Achilles heel of CO2 sensors in the current-limited environment typical of sensing applications, particularly those which are battery powered.

In fact, the new CozIR LP can be supported by compact batteries, negating the need for larger batteries and supercapacitors.

Grant Notman continues;

"With the advent of smart cities and increasing environmental awareness, the monitoring and control of CO2 has become a key green issue. Architects and building managers are now specifying elegant, thin sensor enclosures for consumer/public structures so the CozIR LP, with a height of less than 8mm, provides the ideal CO2 sensor solution.”

Ralph Weir, who took over the role of CEO at GSS in December, adds:

"We had some fantastic feedback over in the USA regarding the IoT potential that our smaller model now unlocks for manufacturers and their ever-evolving customer needs. This new sensor release represents the next node of theGSS leadership CO2 sensor roadmap and offers an ideal upgrade path for space sensitive and evolving battery powered wireless applications.

“With every iteration, we try to improve every possible facet - this is a far more streamlined design, losing none of the performance whilst adding a greater flexibility for our customers who are seeking ever smaller components.”

You can find GSS on Stand C91 at ISH 2017 from March 14th-18th. If you would like to arrange a convenient time to see the new CozIR LP at the show in Frankfurt, please get in touch. You can register online for the ISH show here.
